Try sprinkling the apple slices with a bit of cinnamon sugar before drying - even more addicting! Dried apples are easily reconstituted for use in pies and baked goods, with a fraction of the storage space needed.Sadgehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01953324909028095434noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5212502404088013274.post-45974222167077651612008-11-04T09:51:00.000-08:002008-11-04T09:51:00.000-08:00I am going nuts with my new dehydrator. It is amazing how small a big bag of apples becomes once dried. I'm up to my eyeballs - I've made caramel apple jam & plan to make canned apple pie filling - may try a small amount of applesauce for the freezer since I'm the only one that eats it!JoAnnahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08540884978535488880noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5212502404088013274.post-63829556702314669672008-10-31T14:29:00.000-07:002008-10-31T14:29:00.000-07:00I know who can identify your apples--he does it fo...I know who can identify your apples--he does it for a living. I use plastic freezer containers that have been used over and over for several years. Mine ripen mid-August here, but these apples were just now ripe mid-October. They're crisp/tart, like a Fuji. You're right about Gravensteins being melt-in-your-mouth sweet.Sadgehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01953324909028095434noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5212502404088013274.post-70715454718852828122008-10-29T11:50:00.000-07:002008-10-29T11:50:00.000-07:00Could they be Gravensteins? They are very sweet, almost fall apart in your mouth when ripe, and were in season through october.Annahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15281933428494897784noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5212502404088013274.post-16135974324739169292008-10-28T19:47:00.000-07:002008-10-28T19:47:00.000-07:00Hi Cathy - I don't see why not, if you have the fr...Hi Cathy - I don't see why not, if you have the freezer space. Either use a straight-sided jar, leaving room for expansion; or do like I do for squash puree, and put 2 cups into a pint freezer bag (or 4:quart), press all air out and seal tight, then lay them down flat on a cookie sheet until frozen. Then I stand the packets up in old shoeboxes in the freezer.Sadgehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01953324909028095434noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5212502404088013274.post-46615735633173822252008-10-28T18:57:00.000-07:002008-10-28T18:57:00.000-07:00That doesn't sound too hard.
